I've got it! The US government was trying to single-handedly revive the United States Postal Service. Forget mailing something ONCE to every household in America! We'll mail TWO things!
I remember the same thing happening a couple of years ago when the government was sending us money that our great great grandchildren will be repaying. They sent a letter to inform us that our check would be coming in a month.
Again. Really? Is someone bored? Wanted to stuff envelopes? Just had too much taxpayer money laying around?
And one more time: Seriously?

[laughing] Seriously.

I had those very same thoughts! I told Elisabeth that our money was keeping the USPS in business :)
Honestly, that is not a smart business decision to mail EVERYONE IN AMERICA a useless letter.
On the other hand, look at how many jobs were "created" or saved in the process of wasting our money.
Thanks, Luke! He fits well. :-)
Kim: So true. Many jobs were utilized for those letters...but at what expense? Who loses in the long run? The taxpayers do.
Morning Amy... that dang government is at it once again!! thanks for the update on senseless spending in our government.

That's what I'm here for, Becky. :-)
I said the exact same thing to Stephen! You know they will send a letter to the people who don't send it back.. do we really need notification that a questionaire is coming?

Just another senseless waste of money, Andrea!
Wanna place odds thy we get a reminder letter after the "package" arrives so we don't forget to send it back?

Sadly, Tiara, I have no doubt they will!
LOL sounds about right I say!!
It's always wonderful to see our tax dollars hard at work! Seriously .....

Isn't it, though, Jay?
Perhaps the letter will get more of the lazier flakier people to respond to the census? Maybe the money wasted is more then made back as a benefit of a more accurate census? But, I agree, it was pretty silly.

Perhaps there was some minor benefit in the overall response rate. I'd bet, though, that those who might have benefited from such a letter won't even open the letter in the first place...let alone complete the census AND mail it back!
LOL I got that too and had much the same thought!

Great minds think alike, Lindsay!
If I don't send back thier questions .... They will pay 2 people to come to my home at $10 an hour each to condisendingly ask me more questions than were on the origional letter... I believe I know one person who has had a census person in thier home only took 3 hours... Why do we pay this much? Assumably because that's what the going rate for ... See More having someone who can read and count come to you to fill something out that you could have done yourself... Oh what a ton of sense we have here... I wonder how the other countries count their inhabitants? Oh ya they count the checks they send out!
