I'm wondering, though, if I titled this post correctly. Perhaps this one would have been more appropriate: "The Post From Which I'll Lose Lots Of Subscribers". Because I'm certain I will. This post totally proves that I am about the most inadequate parent you'll ever find. Either that or "The Post From Which I'll Be Awarded the Title of "
I mean let's face it. I let my son have COFFEE! (Did she just say that she gives her SON coffee!!)
What kind of a horrible mother does that make me? (At least she knows what kind of a horrible, no good, rotten, terrible mother she is! I would NEVER give MY child coffee! I'm perfect. Unlike her.)
Oh. But it gets worse. I know. Hard to imagine worse than giving your 8yr old son coffee. But trust me, it does get worse. MUCH worse. (MUCH worse than giving her son coffee? Where's that number for DHS again? I'm DEFINITELY going to have to call THIS mother in!)
What, pray tell, is SO much worse than JUST giving my 8yr old son coffee?
It's coffee that has been made by his father. I know this doesn't sound THAT bad. Trust me on this one, though. If you were to ever have his coffee you would understand the full impact of that statement.
My husband doesn't just make coffee. He takes an ENTIRE can of Folgers and adds a little water so it's drinkable. And just enough so that it's drinkable. Any less and it wouldn't be drinkable. Any more and it wouldn't be my husband's coffee.
Those with whom he works at SOS Radio would totally attest to the validity of my words.
Alright. I'm putting on my flame-retardant suit. It's a little worse for wear right now because of my migraine, though...so at least be a little nice. K?

Good golly, Amy, what's wrong with that? My little Swedish grandma always served us coffee with our cardamom coffee cake. And now I'm the shortest of the bunch at 5'9", so it sure didn't stunt our growth!
As long as he doesn't drink it in the evening (keeping him awake and therefore you awake), what's the problem? :)
No! Definitely NO COFFEE in the evenings! THAT'S where I put my foot down! LOL
I've actually had people tell me how much I'm damaging my son. I figure we survived what our parents gave us...he will too.
that's it...we can't be friends any more! :p :) mine drink soda (& so do the parents!) on occasion, so i guess i'm even worse off than you! ;) :)
Eh. They'll survive. We did. Just think of what you ate &/or drank as a child. You're still here. Same with me. We're just giving our kids something to talk about when they have children of their own.
So does mine. ;)
Good to know I'm not alone. :-)
So does my daughter.
I did when I was a kid. At church and home. I'm caffeine free now.
That's great, Jennifer! I'm caffeine-free now too! Have been for almost 4 years!
Amy
& we all survived w/o car seats too!!!! lol & to think, i don't want my kids to go like anywhere w/o their car seat/seat belts! lol glad we all survived! :)
I know! It really is amazing what we all managed to survive!
don't let anyone give you grief. I started coffee drinking about that time and i grew up fine!

Thanks for the love, Cody. I'm needing it after the abuse I just took for telling someone he drank coffee...GARY'S thick, dark coffee.
at least the kiddo is drinking good man coffee instead of the weak girly stuff :-)

Are you kidding? Many MEN wouldn't drink that stuff! It's BEAR coffee. Or bison coffee. Or...something.
why do you think @garyontheradio and I get coffee every time you guys are in town :-) #WeAreManlyMen

@CodyJr Are you talking about growing up mentally or physically? :)

@rcichon Wow. That was HARSH! (Yes. I'm calling you short, Cody.) I have the right to do that. :-)
@rcichon oh you know :-)

Mine love iced coffee. I keep them out of it because they are 3 and 5..but they do still get drinks of mine from time to time. They get pop when we our out too! They drink sweet tea too.Guess they better lock us both up. (On a side note I think I would like ur hubbies coffee! Mine makes it kinda weak.)

I don't know, Lyndsay. It's pretty strong!
I seriously all of a sudden want coffee now :-)
(Twitter)
LOL Sorry 'bout that. :-)
I did at my grandma's when I was little....would BEG to have a cup with her. She would always only let me have 1 b/c she said it would stunt my growth!

What's funny is that I never had coffee growing up! LOVE the smell, HATE the taste...yet something still managed to stunt my growth! :-)
My kids all like and drink coffee. I do drink it. I think a little too much haha. I don't let them have it as often as THEY would like but they do get it sometimes! :P
I love coffee and iced tea but when I eat out I order sprite. I make decaf hazelnut coffee and decaf iced tea at home. Caffeine is my primary pain trigger. One "leaded" coffee or tea and I'm stiff and achy all over. Two servings and I'm writhing in pain :-(
@Kim We all have our vices. Mine is chocolate.
@Jennifer Yikes! Yes...please stay pain free!
Haha well, I have more than one then cause chocolate is tied with coffee for first place hehe. Either one will do.
And Amy, I'm pretty sure your husbands coffee and my coffee are about on the same level. SO I guess that makes me worst mom of the year also! :)
Ha! I'm sure he'll be glad to know he's not the only one who just adds a bit of water to a can of Folgers! LOL
Haha, I do like it strong!
When I was a kid I used to love coffee, now that I am a grown-up I prefer tea, and to think that my partner owns a coffee shop! Amy, if you and your family ever come to Rome, you all must taste our finest Italian-style coffee (caffè guiducci)!
I'm more of a tea person too, Francesca.
Italy is definitely a place we want to visit someday. We'll have to keep your coffee shop in mind! My husband will need a good place to feed his addiction! :-)
I've read that in some cases, and completely against common sense, caffeine given to some kids with mild ADHD can help them focus. You would think they'd be bouncing off the walls, but I guess the stimulant just gives them a kick in the right direction. So in that case, coffee might actually be beneficial for a kid. Now, I'm not sure whether a jolt of the stuff you're saying Gary makes is good for any living creature, but the "no coffee for kids" thing seems a lot like a myth to me. Besides, we feed them pop with caffeine in it all the time.
